Youth Department Staff
Majors Scott and Susan Kelly are the Divisional Youth and Candidates Secretaries for the state of New Jersey as well as the Camp Directors. John Copeland is the Assistant Camp Director. Julie Jewell is the Divisional Bridging the Gap Coordinator. Joy Khakula is the Youth Department Secretary
Leadership Staff
Including Program Director, Village Leaders, and our TAG/Christian Education specialist, these are the individuals who help us to run the camp. We work together to create a great program and establish a Camp Tecumseh team that runs smoothly from year to year.
Counselors
As temporary guardians of the kids; our 20 counselors, 2 float counselors, and 10 junior counselors and aides provide twenty-four hour supervision. They are the temporary parents. They get the most exposure to the kids and their lifestyle ministry and friendship are the foundations of great relationships and lifelong memories.
Aquatics
Our Head Lifeguard is responsible for the pool area and our boating activities. This person supervises the other lifeguards who will share those responsibilities this year. Often seen just sitting around the pool and twirling a whistle, our aquatics staff often goes unappreciated. The intensive training that goes into each individual works to ensure that accidents are avoided before they could happen. These positions require First Aid and CPR certification as well as a Lifeguard Training Certificate. Our Head lifeguard must be WSI certified.
Program Staff
This crew operates all of our program areas for our clubs and activities. They get the most teaching time with the young people and with the exception of the counselors are the most likely to immerse themselves in the ever-important relationships that occur between campers and staff. While the counselors are like the parents at camp, the program staff are the fun aunts and uncles.
Support Staff
Because they cover everything from preparing and serving meals to cleaning up after everybody, we would be lost without the support staff. With only twenty-two people, and many of them first timers at Camp Tecumseh , they are integral to the success of our camp. Many of these positions are our entry-level positions and this is where we get the chance to meet the greatest young people in the world.
Health Staff
One-hundred and eighty kids a week. Ninety Staff plus camp leadership positions. Long days, late nights. Busy schedules. All of this adds up over the summer and we will see everything from little bumps and bruises to the occasional cold. Our two health care workers keep us safe and healthy all summer.
Stay tuned to the website over the next few months to learn more about our staff. As the summer progresses we will be taking photographs and posting them to the website. Make sure you and your child look for these pictures to get familiar with the staff members that he or she will meet or has already met. What a great chance for your child to tell you all about his or her Camp Tecumseh adventures!!!
As members of a Christian organization, and as Christians ourselves, we work at a camp that serves to promote and fulfill the Salvation Army's mission to “preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.” We try to fill our positions with individuals who accept our purpose and mission as well. Our staff is encouraged to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with our young people through bible studies, devotional times, prayer, and through their own actions. For individuals who work at Camp Tecumseh and are uncertain of their own beliefs we provide a structure of support and guidance as they spend the summer exploring their own faith.
